GroupSmarter wasn't born in a boardroom. It was born at a kitchen table, surrounded by bank statements, event flyers, and a laptop with seventeen browser tabs open.
My wife spent years as a PTO board member — treasurer, event coordinator, communications lead, and whatever-else-needs-doing volunteer. A "few hours a month" role that somehow consumed evenings, weekends, and our sanity.
She'd reconcile bank statements at midnight. Chase down receipts that had been living in someone's car for three weeks. Send out the QR code for the fall festival — only to realize a week later it was last year's code and no one was actually signing up. Cue the frantic last-minute resend trying to salvage attendance.
She'd proofread social media posts before they went live — or worse, do damage control when one went out wrong. Sit through three-hour board meetings debating car wash versus bake sale, only to forget who agreed to bring what. Send fifteen emails trying to get local businesses to donate to the silent auction.
And once, memorably, she realized mid-popcorn-fundraiser that we were almost out of popcorn salt — because nobody knew we were running low until we weren't. Some things you just can't software your way out of.
